Two weekends ago I took a little time to recharge at Two Bunch Palms, nestled in the quiet of Desert Hot Springs.
Sometimes, we forget we’re energy.
We run ourselves like machines, constantly in motion, expecting to produce, to respond, to keep up, to be strong.
But we’re not made of metal and code.
We’re breath and heartbeat, nervous system and soul.
And like any form of energy, we get depleted, overwhelmed.
But our plug isn’t in the wall. It’s in the world.
In the sway of trees, the hush of wind, the vastness of deserts, mountains and oceans.
It’s in the places that bring us back to our breath,
the people who remind us of our own light, experiences that let us exhale fully.
We recharge by plugging into what grounds us. What calms our nervous system, opens our heart,
and clears our minds so we can hear our own rhythm again.
This trip to Two Bunch Palms reminded me that healing isn’t always loud or dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like lying in a hammock, staring at the sky.
Listening to that quiet, steady hum of life beneath everything.
The warmth of mineral water wrapping around you like an ancient memory.
The way the desert holds you, bare and honest, and reminds you of how little you need to feel whole.
Here, I didn’t recharge by doing.
I recharged by being.
By finding gratitude and appreciation for the moment I was living.
By watching how wild animals simply enjoy life, with no rush, no striving.
By walking on sun-warmed earth.
By listening to the wind moving through the palm fronds.
By letting my breath sync with something older and wiser than me.
So this is your reminder (and mine):
You are energy.
Protect it. Nourish it. Plug back into what replenishes you,
and unplug from what drains you.
And remember that you’re allowed to pause.
You’re allowed to not be “on" all the time.
Wherever you are right now, may you find your source. And plug back in.
